Mario Kart on Gameboy? It's about time! The programming limitations of earlier Gameboy systems have prevented everyone's favorite kart game from going portable, but here it is at long last! And man was it worth the wait. MKSC took everything that was good from the SNES and N64 versions of Mario Kart and mushed them all together. The play control is rock solid, the graphics are really beautiful, and the new tracks are great! I haven't had a chance to play it head-to-head yet, but just the thought makes me quiver with excitement. I can't wait till I can convince Amanda to buy a GBA (hint hint)....
Along with all the new tracks, there are some old ones returning to test your skills. All of the tracks from the SNES Mario Kart have been thrown in and you have to win the GP races in all classes (50cc, 100cc, and 150cc) to open them up. This adds a ton of reply value, especially when you consider the new "ranking" system that was added. It's not enough to just win the gold cup--now you have to get a 3-star rank as well in order to be the best of the best. Getting a rank that high in the 150cc Special Cup is really, really hard. I've raced my butt off (breaking numerous speed limits) and I'm still only getting a "D" ranking. Stupid Donkey Kong!
Anyway, if you missed the original Super Mario Kart and/or Mario Kart 64, you'll definitely have to give Super Circuit a test drive. It's fast, fun, and one of the best GBA titles currently available. Watch out for Banana Peels!
