As you probably guessed, I like simulation games. I just find it very entertaining to build up a place and watch it prosper or fail. The problem is that nearly all simulations are set in modern-day times, so there's not a whole lot of variety from game to game. Amusement parks, people, and cities all lose their luster after you've played all of them, and one starts to crave something radically different in a sim game. Majesty is it. Journey back the age of myths, monsters, heroes and kings in this "Fantasy Kingdom Sim."
You are the king and you have complete control over the kingdom. It's standard simulation stuff; you build buildings, make money, and recruit heroes to protect your land. Heroes range from the simple palace guards to the mighty Paladins and Warriors of Discord. There are multiple senarios to complete and you can also design your own quest (which is particularly fun). Monsters and heroes from rival kingdoms constantly attack what you've worked so hard to build, so you have to fortify your buildings and keep plenty of knights, wizards, healers, etc. around to survive. You even get to do a little spell-casting yourself if you meet certain requirements. Think of it as having control over your own fairy tale!
Majesty probably won't appeal to everyone, since not everyone likes fantasy and magic. But for those of you who, like me, love myths, monsters, and magic, this one is for you. I think this game is even more immersive than RCT, The Sims, or Sim City. If you don't really care for stuff like this, then keep playing in those more "realistic" simulations. I, on the other hand, can't wait till I have enough money to buy the expansion pak...
